Introducing Something Big
from Beyond Fitting In!!!
We are thrilled to announce the launch of The Belonging Network — a new initiative and the next chapter of the work we've been building together. The Belonging Network is a centralized partnership and MyCAP implementation system designed to ensure that every middle school student across Barnstable County has structured, meaningful access to career-connected learning — regardless of their background, their town, or who their family happens to know.
Through two integrated components — a managed industry partnership network and dedicated MyCAP implementation support — the Network recruits and sustains relationships with local employers and community organizations on behalf of schools, while coaching educators to embed career exploration into the fabric of advisory and academic life.
It is infrastructure that schools need but rarely have the capacity to build alone. Grounded in research on belonging, identity, and student agency, and built by the same team that has guided the Beyond Fitting In mission from the start, The Belonging Network is how we move from one school at a time to a connected, equitable system — one where every young person on Cape Cod and Islands can see themselves as a capable, future-ready individual with real possibilities ahead. We'd love for you to be part of it.
OUR MODEL

Two components. One coherent system.

The Belonging Network of Cape Cod and the Islands operates through two integrated components that work together to make career-connected learning sustainable, equitable, and embedded in everyday school life.
Part 1: Centralized Partnership System

-
Recruits, vets, and onboards industry partners across Barnstable County
-
Maintains a curated regional database aligned to grade-level goals and student interests
-
Coordinates mentoring sessions, career panels, site visits, and problem-solving challenges
-
Tracks engagement, volunteer hours, and experience quality for continuous improvement
-
Eliminates inequities tied to social capital — every student gets structured access
Part 2: MyCAP Implementation Support

-
Coaches school teams in building a MyCAP scope & sequence for grades 6–8
-
Provides professional learning, curriculum resources, and lesson-planning support
-
Embeds career exploration into advisory and academic structures — not as an add-on, but as school culture
-
Analyzes data to monitor equity, implementation fidelity, and student outcomes
-
Reduces educator coordination burden while increasing confidence and sustainability
Partnership access without implementation support = one-off events that don't stick. Implementation support without partnerships = curriculum disconnected from real-world relevance. Together: a coherent, equitable system
About Our Founder
Dr. Julie DiPilato
I became an educator because I know what it feels like to sit in a classroom
and believe you don’t belong there.

As a middle schooler with an undiagnosed learning disability, I spent years
convinced I wasn’t smart enough—especially in math. School felt like something I had to survive, not a place where I could see my future. It wasn’t until much later in life that I understood I was capable; I just needed someone to help me see myself differently.

That experience shaped everything about the work I do today.
I’ve spent more than 15 years in education—and completed a doctoral dissertation on student belonging—driven by a simple commitment: every child deserves to be seen, valued, and supported as their full, authentic self.

My work now focuses on helping schools create environments where belonging is not accidental or reserved for a few—it’s intentionally designed into the culture. I partner with educators, leaders, and communities to shift systems from compliance and standardization to humanizing, identity-affirming, equity-centered practice.

I specialize in:
• Belonging-centered and culturally responsive teaching
• Humanizing pedagogy and critical consciousness development
• Anti-racist and social justice–aligned professional learning
• Facilitating educator-led PD rooted in reflection and lived experience
• Middle school career exploration and CCTE pathway design
• Action research, qualitative analysis, and equity-driven systems change
• Building staff trust, collaboration, and psychological safety
• Strengthening family and community partnerships

What drives me is watching educators light up when they connect their own stories to their practice—and when students begin to see their strengths, voices, and future possibilities more clearly.

If your district or organization is working to rebuild culture, strengthen belonging, or create equitable, future-ready pathways for all students, I’d love to connect. This is the work I was meant to do—and the work I believe can transform schools from the inside out.
